Jiaxing Economic and Technological Development Zone (JXEDZ) was approved by Zhejiang Provincial Government in August 1992 as one of the first five provincial-level EDZs in the province, and enjoys the same preferential policies granted to other coastal EDZs by the central government.

Now the Zone is listed as one of the Five-Most-Important-EDZs of Zhejiang Province among all of the 62 EDZs of the Province above provincial level.

Covering an area of 70km 2 , JXEDZ is situated in the west part of the city proper, 3km away from downtown.
