Population of Jiaxing Municipality in 2006 was 3.60 million. Jiaxing Municipality includes 5 county-level cities (Pinghu, Haining, Jiashan, Haiyan, Tongxiang) and 2 districts (Xiucheng District and Xiuzhou District). The downtown area of Jiaxing city is composed of Xiucheng District and Xiuzhou District. Population of Jiaxing city was 0.79 million and is expected to reach 1 million by the end of 2010. In the jiaxing city, 521,000 are employed in different sections, an increase of 76,000 than previous year, among which, 103,200 people are working in manufacturing industries. The urban registered unemployment rate stood at 4.1% in 2005.
 Inside the city, school graduates of various types (graduates of local and non-local universities, colleges, vocational schools, and senior schools) got 45% of the newly-added job positions, former staff and workers of the local enterprises got 35%, and farmers and demobilized soldiers got the remaining 20%.
